Classwork

In Maths, Year 5 are approaching the end of a period where the focus has been fractions. We shall now be tackling decimals and percentages.

Weekly Skills Checks continue in order to give a snapshot of children's progress.

Please encourage your child to learn their times tables, which underpin so much of the maths challenges faced.

In Literacy, work based around the novel Because of Winn-Dixie, by Kate DiCamillo, has included writing a persuasive letter. Further work will involve writing an informative letter; a diary entry to build tension; a narrative flashback; a radio appeal transcript, and a book review.

Year 5 have also been the happy recipients of Friday afternoon weekly visits from a 'reading dog' and handler through the Pets as Therapy organisation, where children's reading is encouraged through reading to a dog, in our case 'Gizmo'.

Science work has been investigating Properties and Changes of Materials - please see the accompanying slides showing Year 5's investigations.
